About this role 

At Tom Wood, we’re gearing up for an exciting chapter of growth, and our newly created Business Controller position is key to driving our ambitious plans forward. We’re looking for a proactive and strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced environment, balancing big-picture financial insights with meticulous day-to-day operations.

In this role, you’ll play a key role in shaping the financial landscape that supports our expansion. You’ll provide critical insights to senior leadership, helping to ensure our financial operations are both accurate and efficient. Reporting directly to the CFO, you’ll collaborate across functions to enhance our financial performance while contributing to our long-term strategy.

Key Responsibilities  

• Participate in the annual budgeting process, including the development of financial forecasts and variance analysis
• Leverage Power BI to provide regular financial updates to the team managers, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs), analysis, and collaborating on corrective actions where necessary
• Manage month-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation in collaboration with our external accountants in Norway and Japan. Ensure timely and accurate completion of all reporting activities in accordance with NGAAP
• Support and manage financial aspects of projects, such as system implementations, inventory management, pricing strategy, and other initiatives in alignment with our growth plan
• Follow up and ensure ERP flows are running smoothly, reporting correct figures, and maintaining accurate data flows. Work closely with IT and other departments to troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to the ERP system
• Drive process improvements and automations within the finance systems to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of financial operations
• Collaborate with the commercial teams to monitor and follow up on accounts payable, ensuring timely payments and accurate accounting records
• Be an active participant during interim and year-end audits, including the preparation of audit schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries
• Monitor and analyze operating expenses, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements. Implement robust financial controls and processes to ensure cost-effective operations

Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) is a plus
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in financial management or a similar role
• Strong proficiency in financial analysis, modeling, and reporting tools
• Experience with ERP systems, Microsoft PowerBI (or other Business Intelligence tools), and advanced Excel skills are required. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a plus
• Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams and influencing business decisions
• High level of integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of NGAAP and experience with financial audits and regulatory compliance
• Experience with or exposure to intercompany and group consolidation is a plus
